HIKING Category – This is where I want to post our hiking journals, photos and slide shows. Right now there is only one hike, but more to follow.

MUSIC Category – This is where all the beautiful music is located. There are two sub-categories; Midi Sing-a-long and Vocal Sing-a-Long. In the main Music Category is where I will just put instrumentals that do not have lyrics. The Midi Sing-a-Long pages have songs and lyrics with no vocals. The Vocal Sing-a-Long pages have songs and lyrics and vocals.

THE BIG TO-DO Category‘ – This is where I am going to be posting all our humongous projects and the progress being made on each. Right now there is one “Completed” project with pics and slide show under OFFICE.

THE MIGHTY 8TH Category – This is where I will post everything to do with the Mighty 8th Air Force and our friends there. The slide shows from all the reunions and meetings are there and there is also a tour of the 8th Air Force Museum.

About:

My name is Debbie. Also known as Smudew. I have had this website since 1996. Back then, the internet was very different to what it has become today. I hope that other folks who share my views and interests will find this website and follow along on this journey into the new world!

I was raised by my grandparents. And my likes and dislikes are reflected in that generation gap. My taste in music is more to my grandmothers era than to someone my age (which I ain’t tellin’ – but you will probably figure out if you read much of this!)

I am writing this blog for my own benefit, but perhaps some of you who find yourselves in this same situation will get some help from it too.

I was thrilled to find this site for words to “peg o’ my heart”. I am preparing for a memorial service for a dear friend who flew for the navy, eastern and corporate companies…I’ve known him since I was 11 years old and he used to try his best to pick out a tune on the piano that he wanted me to play for him. He was so totally tone deaf that I never could quite figure out what the song was…He only remembered the first 4 notes! I think it was peg o my heart and i’m going to sing it at his service. His mom’s name was peggy and she died when he was a teenager, so i’m pretty sure this song is the one. Thanks so much.
As a piano teacher, i’m always looking for the words to old tunes and this site is a super source. Hooray!!

My mom use to sing the Jolly Playmate when I was a toddler and she had a chorus that she sang with it. I only remember two lines. and the tune to them. Don’t write music but the lyrics were: ” She couldn’t come out to play, It was a rainy day”. Maybe someone else can fill in the rest. Enjoying your blog. THANKS!!!

  6. Smudew says:

there is another verse that goes something like this:

Well, she couldn’t come out and play
    It was a rainy day
With tearful eye she breathed a sigh
And I could hear her say

We never sang that one though … :-)

  7. Beautifully designed website with some very enjoyable material. Please feel free to use any piano roll MIDI files from my site. Glad you like them.

    Hi,

I’ve visited this site before, although it has been a while. But this time, it’s really, really hard to see the text over the dark background. I don’t remember it being so bad. In fact, I hope I’ve filled in the info boxes correctly, because I had to really strain to try to read the labels on the boxes.

  15. Smudew says:

From the sounds of it, I would say that you need to reload the page. The Extreme background is dark brown, but on top of that, the actual webpage is a light colored beige. Doesn’t sound like the whole page loaded.

Hi, Just noticed your lyric page with the lyric to Carolina in the Morning.
The words are OK but you have attributed it to the wrong composers.
It’s not by Dietz & Schwartz, it’s words by Gus Kahn and lmusic by Walter Donaldson.

  17. Smudew says:

    Thank you, Brian.

    Fixed it. :-)

  21. Smudew says:

    Hello Choyce,

The song you are referring to is, in fact, called Train Ride, and it is from the movie Ragtime. The soundtrack for Ragtime is available on iTunes, amazon, Lala, etc…

    It is a beautiful song.

I was looking for your Stardust Ballroom tunes, specifically “Begin the Beguine”, when I found the Mighty Eighth Museum, which began with “Begin the Beguine”! I grew up listening to “during the war” from my mother. She used to sing the 1940′s tunes and I still do.(I sing with a Big Band). When we pause to think of our great nation and all of the sacrifices “the Greatest Generation” made…not for praise or adoration…for PATRIOTISM. They felt the responsibility to defend our nation, even if it cost them their lives. Do we have patriots of that selfless character today? Will there be an America left in a few years to even defend? Thank you for your loving effort to maintain this wonderful website. What a joy! P.S.: Do you still have the Stardust Ballroom tunes? Thanks!

  23. Smudew says:

    Hi Sherry,

Yes, I do have all the Stardust Ballroom stuff …. the problem is that while they sounded great under Windows XP and below – the midi files sound awful under Vista and Windows 7. So I am going thru and updating the midi files one at a time. In order to do that, I have to get on a old desktop I have that still has xp on it and record the midi files into mp3′s and then bring them into Windows 7 and then do all the Sing-a-Long and graphics stuff in order to put them on this new site. So, eventually I will get all the good ones converted and brought over.

    Hi Debbie,

I stumbled on your wonderful site by accident when looking for the words to some old songs for a singalong for my Uncle Bob’s 100th birthday party this coming Saturday, March 27, 2010. Uncle Bob used to sing Carolina in the Morning, Side By Side, Rosalie, Rocked in the Cradle of the Deep, Laugh, Clown, Laugh, and many others. How great it is to know that he and the family can sing along with some of these great old songs at the party! By the way, he’s in amazing health, sharp as any 30-year-old, and still gardens and walks 2 miles a day on his treadmill. He’ll go way past 100!

    Thanks and best regards,

    Happy Birthday Uncle Bob!!

Debbie i want to thank you for answering my email so fast. I was surprised to hear from you. You are correct that I have Dial Up and im forever having problems. It was taking me awhile before your site to load for me but things seem to be a bit better tonight.

i do want to say that your old site was much more easy to access and a lot simplier but I guess with all the information you have you were having problems.

I like all of your midis and everything else. i grew up in the 50s and like the Rock and Roll and the girl singers like Doris Day-Patti Paige-R. Clooney and the like. The section u have on the Monkees is also interesting. Being in high school and bringing back The Beatles and the English Invasion brings back a lot of memories. As for Davy Jones ive seen him and the Monkees in concert here in Pennsylvania a few years back. Davey has a horse farm in my area and i got a chance to greet and meet him at a newstand where i now work. Two last thoughts-i like the 40s Canteen war music also. Nothing beats American Patrol., I really liked coming across on your hymn section the video that i remember very much when it aired in the early 60s of Andy Griffith and Don Knotts singing Little Church In The Dale.

Thank you again for answering my email and your concern.

Thanks for the memories from an Old Codger in Florida. I have a great time singing along with all those memorable tunes. It brings back a lot of happy memories. Many thanks -you have a great web site . “Let a Smile Be Your Umbrella on a Rainy, Rainy Day.”

I’m so glad you are enjoying your visit!

  31. Went to this site because I was searching for the song “Little Church in the Dale” and this popped up. Very interesting conversations between you all. I am looking for the words of this song with the chords, so if you have it, would appreciate receiving it.

‘Thank you, Ralph from Torrance California, originally from Maui

What an excellent web-site, only just came across it whilst looking for words of ‘Falling in Love Again@; a little spelling misprint in the first line as you have it though: “Failing in love again…”!
